CLASS LEVELS & MACHINE RENTAL
Ever want to take sewing class just to try something new?
Ever wish you didn't have to bring your sewing machine to class?
Waechter's categorizes its classes into LEVELS from I (easiest) to Master (most challenging). This way you're sure to know that the class you choose is best suited to your current skill level.
We also offer sewing machine rentals for those you want to try a sewing class and don't want to purchase a machine or for those who want to travel light to class. Machines are $10 per day on a first come first served basis. Please call ahead to make your machine reservation. |

Camp SEW WOW! - 1 day

| Camp SEW WOW is designed for ages 9-15. For all young and young at heart enthusiasts. Let's take advantage of the Holidays and get creative. The focus will be creative expression. There will be a choice of several projects depending on your sewing skills. Mother/daughter/son/combos welcome. Bring basic sewing supplies and machine or rent a sewiwng machine. |

Holiday Dress I
|

| What could be more exciting than to wear a dress, suitable for ages 8-14,featured in the forthcoming Christmas issue of Sew Beautiful magazine? Our store sample is a ballerina length blue duppioni with an elegant trim at the waistline but Waechter's has so many colors available for the season that your own fashion model can choose to be her best in any hue. |

Needleworks - Machine
|
|
| Play with double and triple machine needles combined with some of the utility or decorative stitches on your sewing machine to create special details on your holiday sewing. Learn what that little hole on the front of the needle plate is for! Yes, it does have a purpose. |

Pants That Fit
|
|
| Learn to sew pants that really fit! You will choose your pants pattern from several flattering pant styles from Loes Hinse: Basic Pants OR Oxford Pants OR European Pants. In the first session, you will have your measurements taken, then alter the pattern according to your measurements and ease requirements. If time allows, you will cut your “test” muslin pants to sew at home. In the second class, Susan will assist in fine tuning the fit. Once you have the fit you are comfortable in, you will create a "fresh" pattern so you can produce many pants from the same pattern. |

Get Fit Clinic
|
|
| Have you made a garment that you never wear because it doesn’t fit properly? This class gives you the opportunity to make a muslin “test” garment using your body measurements and have it fitted before you cut into that beautiful fabric you have been saving. Susan will work her magic to sculpt your muslin to your unique figure. Then she will help you translate the necessary changes to the paper pattern so you will be ready to cut and sew your garment. By learning about the shape of your figure and the changes that you will probably always need to make your patterns, you will enjoy sewing for yourself. Limited class size, so sign up early for this popular class. You may wish to enroll for a Sit & Sew class as a follow up or to finish your project with expert assistance. |

Basic Sewing (Adults)

| Have you been watching Project Runway, is there a budding designer in you, or have you just always wanted to sew?? Come join our class. You will learn the basics: threading your machine, pattern/fabric selection, seam allowance, needles. The 3 projects include a pillowcase, a home dec item and a tote bag great for the grocery as well as gifts for Christmas. Bring basic sewing supplies including your machine, don't have one, rent one of ours for the class. |

Smocking with Betsy

| Want to make one of those precious smocked garments for your favorite child? Our talented Betsy will show you how to complete a sampler of stitches that teaches all you need to know to smock your first project. Once you have mastered the basics, you are ready to move on to a Bishop or smocked Yoke Dress. Fee includes supplies. Bring a pair of embroidery scissors to class. |

Slashed Silk Scarf

| Elizabeth Searle has been using this technique in many types of garments that she successfully sells in craft shows. made with this technique. Learn to stack and slash a silk scarf and you too can transfer your skills to all kinds of garments or gift items. This is a fun class with tons of applications. Or maybe you just want to make a handful of scarves for everyone on your gift list. |

Couching Fibers

| Elizabeth will teach you the skill of turning a simple jacket into a work of art by couching fibers. Add all kinds of texture, color and bling to your garment. You can have a jacket to dress up your jeans or wear out in the evening. This is a fun class that any one who has good machine control and patience can master. |

Fun to Wear Fabric Flowers

| Elizabeth's book, “Fun to Wear Fabric Flowers,” is a great book to have in your sewing library. In this class, she will teach you how to make some of these beautiful flowers for your coat or jacket. |

Embellishment Techniques

| Discover the secrets of creating fabric buttons, covered cording and piping, lace work on the machine, selection and use of readymade trims for your holiday sewing or a wearable art project. Elizabeth has samples galore of the many versatile ways to use these creative techniques on your garments. |

Silhouette Tour
|
|
| An In-Depth Look at Waechter’s Monthly Trunk Show with Laura Casey. The lecture features independent pattern designs. Laura will discuss the designer’s innovative style and creative philosophy, provide guidance in selecting suitable pattern styles for different body types and suggest fabrics that would work especially well for the pattern. Laura will also review special construction techniques and emphasize embellishment details to create a personal style. Participants who register for a class at Waechter’s within the next month will have the $10 fee applied toward their class fee. Featured pattern designs are Oct 1: Indygo Junction Jackets; Oct 29: Cutting Lines Design and The Sewing Workshop; and Dec 3: Decades of Style. |

Halloween Costume Making
|
|
| This workshop is for all ages….with your child, grandchild or just for yourself. For girls, we will be making Fairy and Princess costumes -- sewing will include making a gossamer skirt and embellishing a T-shirt. Wings, star scepter and crowns can be purchased the day of class…be prepared to sew and have fun! For the boys, we will be making pirate costumes -- complete with black cape, eye patch and sash --perfect for swashbuckling!
You will need to bring basic sewing supplies, sewing machine (or one can be rented per day @ $10). Also bring a T-shirt for decorating and black pants for our Pirate. If you care to make a devil’s costume…we can do a red cape and make the appropriate horns and tail…..This should be a fun afternoon for any age!

Fabric Manipulation

| Use your sewing machine for more than stitching seams. Have fun learning how to use the various presser feet for your sewing machine, how your sewing machine bobbin can be a great artist tool and how you can manipulate fabric to add the right creative touch to your wardrobe. No one will believe you did it yourself! |

Bias Silk Scarf

|
| A quick first project for using that new serger you bought last week…or last year. Create a special scarf for your new jacket or for holiday gift giving. Sew easy, so soft and so lovely! Serger must be in good working order and for best results able to sew a rolled hem. |

Friday Sit & Sew
|
|
| Have you ever wished you had a sewing expert at your side while you were sewing? Well, now your wish can come true! Waechter’s is offering you the use of their sewing lab and an instructor to answer your questions or help solve a sewing or fitting problem…with no outside distractions: Fridays, October 23 – December 11 except No Sit & Sew on Oct. 16 and Nov. 27)
You may come for 2 hours in the morning from 10am-12 pm or in the afternoon from 12:30-2:30pm or for all day 10-2:30 pm. Fee for 2 hours is $20 or full day is $40.
You may register for as many Friday Sit & Sew Sessions as you prefer.
Call at least one day in advance to register.

Designer Details

| Come and learn the tips and tricks that will add that extra punch to your garments. You will create a stitch notebook as well as examples using trims and ribbons. The techniques taught can be used in the Indygo Junction Silhouette Jacket class to personalize the pattern of your choice. They can also be used to jazz up your ready to wear. In addition to your machine and basic sewing supplies, please bring 3x5 note cards and a pen. |

| Welcome the cool days of Fall with a new jacket. Choose from 5 Indygo Junction jacket patterns, all feature a loose fit with contemporary styling. The emphasis of the class will be taking a pattern, embellishing it to make a distinctive signature jacket for the season ahead. Minimal fitting will be included with the focus on creative touches to make your jacket sing. Come by Waechter’s and see the samples. Let us help you with pattern choice and fabric to get you started on your creative journey. Patterns to choose from: Simple Swing, One Button Topper, Easy Silhouette, Trapeze Topper and Cross Over Kimono. Bring basic sewing supplies, including your machine. |

Perennial Pants - Laura's Favorite

| Laura Casey has been selling this pattern by Kayla Kennington for years at Waechter’s. She says she has at least 20 pairs…from rayon batik and silk to velvet. Everyone wants to know where she got them! The 3 best things about these pants are:

• They look wonderful on a woman “of a certain age and size”…
• They’re easy to make!
If you need help fitting your pattern, Laura can do that before the day of class, and will help you make your fabric selection. In class, you should be ready to sew and walk out with a great pair of perennial pants for your fall wardrobe.

This is the perfect beginner project for the 8+ girl, and she and Mom can start the cookie season with matching attire. Or, this class can be a one-day Christmas craft project for doting mom or grandmother. Make an apron for the young cook in the house, using a basic pattern designed by Betsy and published in Creative Needle. Possible decorative options include applique or bobbin embroidery.
